475 Commander embodies manner of making two similar but also, regarding many things, different yachts on the same, surely solid, hull. New yacht stands out from the classical Nordic type and, according to her builder Bent Quorning, reminds of synthesis of classical Storebro´s vessel and American Pilothouse motor yacht. Lines are slightly trendy-curved in comparison to sisterly model, but really do not offer anything revolutionary. After all, it was not designer´s intention, because aim was to create naturally harmonious classical cruiser. Hull has been overtaken from 465 Biscay which guarantees silent and tranquil ride with easy managing. Regarding construction, 475 has a very strong divinycell-filled sandwich hull above the waterline with triaxial fibreglass mesh in particular exposed areas such as the stern. Inner part of the helm station and floor panelling are mounted on "floating" bed and isolated from the hull with use of the same technology applied in the biggest Storebro´s yacht (SGS No. 1) in order to subdue noise and vibrations. Bulkheads are also in-laminated into the hull for reducing structural noise, while plywood used for floor has integrated sound-insulation layer. By increasing laminate thickness and hull strength, propeller noise inside the boat is reduced. The external transom-mounted rudders, finely balanced prop tunnels and shallow angle of the propeller shafts also help to suppress sound and vibrations. Final result is a quiet boat, very pleasant in navigation. Helm station is devised to enable acquiring yet another cabin, so is somewhat lengthened in order to accommodate galley that was, in the previous, Biscay, model, visually separated and placed on lower level. Here, former galley´s place is occupied by the third, double, cabin above which, on the helm seat level, is situated very practical L-settee with a triangle-shaped table and a nice view. Enlarging of the helm station is to the detriment of somewhat cramped aft cockpit without wet bar. Impressively large fly bridge has layout identical to the Biscay model. Difference is better communication with helm station thanks to adding another staircase. 475 Commander is delivered with same engines as 465 Biscay and powered by them develops almost identical maximum speed of 34 knots. Cruising speed is 30 knots, while reduction to18 knots or displacement speed of 9 knots are recommendable for longer routes. At mentioned speeds, boat´s behaviour is still excellent, while fuel consumption is significantly reduced.
