This days, Jeanneau unveils its new sailboat for 2006, the Sun Odyssey 42DS. The objective for architect Marc Lombard and the Garroni Design office, in association with the Jeanneau Design Team, was to create an innovative, seaworthy, and comfortable cruising sailboat. It features the ‘‘deck salon’’ style and all the aesthetic characteristics that made the 54 DS famous, a model which has seen over 200 hulls built in three years.
The Sun Odyssey 42 DS has many advantages that make it such an exceptional sailboat:
- A sharp and powerful design featuring a wide aft hull section. The generous and well-balanced sail area adapts to all wind conditions while making for easy sail handling with a reduced crew.
- A striking ‘‘deck salon’’ layout from the Italian designer Garroni, a standard feature that has become the signature style of the 2 successful big cruising sailboats, the Sun Odyssey 49 DS and 54 DS.
- An interior layout with an emphasis on voluminous live-aboard space. Below deck, everything has been conceived to create the type of comfort that one usually finds in larger vessels. The designers have created a both balanced and optimised living area. The two cabin/two head version is equally comfortable for either 4 people or two couples. The salon can seat 8 guests.
- The benefits of the latest in modern construction techniques such as the Jeanneau patented ‘‘prisma process’’ injection method. In addition to the fact that this process permits exceptional deck rigidity, it also allows a weight savings of 30% as well as a perfect surface finish on both sides.
- True to their reputation and their technical demands, Jeanneau has selected the best brand-name equipment: Harken (winchs), Raymarine (electronics), Technique Voile (sails), Selden (spars), Yanmar (engine).
The standard configuration Sun Odyssey 42 DS will be sailing soon before being presented at the Fall Boat Shows in La Rochelle, Cannes and many other major European shows.

Sun Odyssey Deck Saloon «Performance» 42 ds
Who says cruising should be slow?
Building on the success of the Sun Odyssey Performance range, Jeanneau has decided to develop the same concept for its Deck Saloon range allowing even greater speed, tuning and enjoyment to the world’s most complete range of Deck Saloon yachts. Built on the powerful hulls of the successful Sun Odyssey line, the taller mast and additional equipment in the Performance version gives its owner the advantage :
- Tri-radial cut sails made from a sandwich of Mylar and taffeta fabrics provide form stability and protection against UV and abrasion.
- Precise tuning and control of the rigging and sails are the keys to Performance sailing. In order to achieve this precision, Dyneema running rigging, Dyform standing rigging, adjustable genoa cars and adjustable backstay are all standard on the Performance version.
- Below the waterline, a profiled Performance keel and a feathering prop.
