The Malö 39 is to be replaced by a new model, although she has been a success since it was introduced around ten years ago. More than 90 boats left Kungsviken , quite a lot for a shipyard the size of Malö. Moulds and production tools wear out and it was time to change them so in shipyard thought it would be a good idea to improve the model at the same time. They wanted to develop the sailing characteristics of this quality boat even further. The boat has a slightly sharper bow for faster cruising and a wider stern to facilitate a heavier load. Generally speaking, most things have been enlarged - the waterline has increased by around 60 centimetres and the shape is a little rounder and smoother. The craft is available with three different stern versions (transom concave, convex or with integrated bathing platform) giving a total length ranging from 12.35 to 12.65m. The hull is built in sandwich construction of fiberglass reinforced ISO and ORTO polyester. Spacing material is balsa for best bonding, strength and insulation. Blue decor stripes are embedded in the gel coat. On the same method is built the deck and coach roof.
Comfortable and spacious cockpit is roomy for the entire crew. The benches, top of coaming and sole are laid with 12 mm solid teak with black caulking. Separate emergency tiller is mounted directly on the rudder shaft. The mainsheet track is located on the targa arch, resulting in a free and secure cockpit. This provides safer sailing as hazards, that e.g. occur when gibing, are eliminated. Steering pedestal is equipped with compass, single lever engine control and stainless steel holding bar with room for instrument installation close to the helmsman. Collapsible cockpit table is permanently fixed to the steering pedestal. Thanks to the targa arch it is possible to stand under the canopy and sail in bad weather. The cockpit canopy has detachable sides andsection, providing simple yet effective sun protection. The masthead rigging, made by Selden Mast Ltd, has a double pair of spreaders (angled 18?). The mast stands on deck, and mast and boom are made of silver eloxerated aluminium. Mainsail and genoa are made by UK Syversen. The mainsail, made of 380 g Dacron cloth, comes with sail number, traveller, two slab reefs, battens, sail bag, leach line with cleat, telltales and sail cover (beige colour). Genoa (140 %) is made of Goldstar Sandwich cloth DC triradial 77/66/55 inclusive of leach line with cleat and sail bag. Malo 40 is available in two versions, Standard with aft cockpit and some longer, more luxurious Classic with central cockpit. Interior is in both versions almost identical, with two cabins, main saloon and single or two bathroom areas.
