Many manufacturers are presenting their maritime program developments for Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) known as Pocket PCs. These handhelds now permit downloading and reading newspaper articles, serve as dictionaries, and are increasingly also used as automobile navigation instruments. It was high time for them to be developed for display of maritime charts, too.
At least five different vendors now have navigation solutions available for PDAs. Maptech and Delius Klasing are going for inexpensive grid-type charts. Garmin, Transas and C-Map offer solutions with detailed grid charts.
