The new Volvo Penta Joystick for Inboard system is a totally integrated solution. It integrates the helm station with the engines, gearboxes, thruster and rudder. It provides three different modes, which are easily entered through dedicated buttons on the Joystick unit.
Joystick Docking
Use Joystick Docking mode to control the boat in slow speeds during close maneuvers. Simply point the joystick in any direction and the boat will follow your command. Twist the joystick to turn the boat or twist and point simultaneously as you desire. You’re in control. During docking maneuvers, the joystick function will automatically control the rudder, throttle, slip clutch, gear and bow thruster with a patented algorithm.
Joystick Driving
Use Joystick Driving mode to control the steering of your boat at any cruising speed. The function automatically activates the autopilot and the vessel heading is adjusted by twisting the joystick. To perform a rapid maneuver simply point the joystick sideways and the boat will follow; the autopilot is then temporary disengaged and you can control the rudders directly. When the joystick is released, the boat will go straight forward again and the autopilot will be activated. At any time, you can also use the steering wheel as an optional input for the rudders.
Thruster Only
Use Thruster Only mode to control the bow thruster (and stern thruster if such is installed) from the joystick.
All information will be presented in the ordinary user display on the helm.
