Suzuki is proud to announce a partnership with SeaStar Solutions to provide a joystick control system – Optimus 360. This system is compatible with all of Suzuki’s electronic drive-by-wire series outboard motors. Therefore the Optimus 360 system can be used in conjunction with the DF150TG, DF175TG, the new DF200AP, the DF250AP and the flagship DF300AP models, which all benefit from “Suzuki Precision Control” electronic drive-by-wire system.
Fully integrated digital command and control
Optimus 360 takes full advantage of Suzuki Precision Control (SPC) drive-by-wire throttle and shift controls built into these select Suzuki outboards. SPC replaces conventional cable controls with electronic wiring connected to advanced shift and throttle actuators located under the hood. Commands are transmitted from helm to engine in real time via the computer-based control system.
Optimus 360, developed by SeaStar Solutions, integrates Suzuki’s dedicated throttle and shift control system with electronic steering and joystick control systems. The advanced nature of both companies’ systems has allowed Suzuki to integrate throttle, shift and steering control seamlessly into its current digital control architecture.
Confident, easy operation
While underway, an advanced electronic helm provides directional input via an onboard control module to electronically control steering using Smart Cylinders for each outboard. Throttle and shift are controlled separately via the binnacle. At low speeds, the joystick can be engaged, providing integrated throttle, shift and steering control to manoeuvre the boat in practically any direction.
Using this new system, the skipper can switch from steering wheel to joystick when manoeuvring in close quarters, to benefit from even better handling accuracy, which is great when pulling into a crowded fuel dock, entering a tight slip or driving onto a trailer. Fishermen will also appreciate the precise control when positioning a boat to hold position using the joystick over a specific spot.
Optimus 360 has been engineered for optimal safety, with redundant sensors and back-up systems to assure reliable operation. The result is a consumer experience that allows for confident, seamless control, whether manoeuvring in close quarters or running at speed in challenging offshore conditions. Skippers will appreciate smooth, precise shifting and throttle controls, steering that can be customised to the boat’s performance characteristics, not to mention the fingertip joystick control afforded at low speeds.
The Optimus 360 system will soon be available on new boats rigged with twin and triple Suzuki DF300AP, DF250AP, DF200AP, DF175TG or DF150TG ultimate outboard motors and will also be offered through selected boat builders and dealers to be retro-fitted to existing boats.
