Yamaha introduced several new products last month, showing off new technology and more efficient products. The introductions were led by the Helm Master boat control system for vessels powered by twin or triple Yamaha outboard motors. While the system includes a joystick control similar to others recently released by other manufacturers, Yamaha was quick to point out that the system was more than just a joystick.
Instead, Yamaha is focusing on delivering an integrated control system to boat builders, with multiple components. Those components include a new electronic steering system, electronic key system, anti-theft devices, display units and more. The system is designed to make operation in close quarters simpler and less stressful.
Helm Master will be OEM-only and not available for re-power applications for now. The company is currently in discussions with about 15 boat builders to install the system. The builder partners and pricing will be unveiled in February at the Miami Boat Show, when Helm Master is officially introduced to consumers.
Yamaha also unveiled several new engines:
● F200 – A new four-cylinder four-stroke engine that Yamaha says is the lightest 200-hp four-stroke on the market. The new F200 weighs in at 487 lbs., 119 lbs. lighter than its predecessor. The F200 is available with digital electronic control or mechanical control.
● V MAX SHO 150 – Calling it Yamaha’s “first true bass engine,” the company introduced the new 150, which outperforms Yamaha’s two-stroke VZ-150 HPDI. The V MAX SHO 150even features a special paint scheme and exhaust to make it “look fast,” Yamaha says.
● Redesigned outboards – The F50, F60, T50, T60 and F60 Jet models all received a facelift to make their appearance compatible with the new engines Yamaha is introducing. The redesign includes new cowls and a lower engine pan for better drainage. The F9.9 and T9.9 also have been redesigned, with a new graphics package and features to make storage easier, including resting pads, improved carrying handle and a folding tiller handle.
