Ferretti Yachts and Mochi Craft presented the new ZF SteerCommand for Ferretti steering and manoeuvring system, developed by ZF Marine and AYT Ferretti, customized for the Ferretti Group. SteerCommand technology is based on the “steer by wire” system, developed by the aviation industry to provide more precise route-keeping and allow on board weight to be cut. This was then adopted by top-end car manufacturers to control driving stability.
ZF SteerCommand for Ferretti replaces the traditional hydraulic helm and comprises an electric motor on the helm wheel. By using an optimised algorithm, it operates each of the two linear actuators individually, in the way that best suits speed, angle of turn and sailing conditions. Steering comfort is further enhanced by ZF’s innovative Joystick Manoeuvring System (JMS), which provides electronic control of motors, reversers and bow thrusters, allows the craft to be moved in any direction by moving the joystick.
