Cummins MerCruiser Diesel has launched the QSD2.8 marine diesel engine at a 220 hp rating. Two versions of the rating are available: High Output (HO) for use in pleasure craft and, for the first time Light Duty Commercial for use in high-speed, low-load commercial and government vessels.
The QSD2.8-220 hp – which is rated at 3,800 rpm – provides improved acceleration over previous iterations, as well as superior performance and sociability for Axius® joystick-controlled applications. The 220 hp rating is available as an inboard with Technodrive transmission or as a sterndrive with Bravo One, Two or Three drives. The 2.8-220 replaces the QSD2.8-170 hp, QSD2.8-210 hp and the QSD2.8-230 hp.
Features of the QSD2.8-220 hp package include:
- SmartCraft 2.2 architecture, including Digital Throttle & Shift (DTS)
- Global emissions certification (EPA Tier 2, IMO and RCD)
- Small, lightweight package for easy installation and service
- High-pressure, common-rail fuel system providing excellent fuel economy and efficiency.
In comparing QSD2.8-220 hp to its market competition, the CMD product excels with:
- Best power-to-weight ratio, resulting in improved boat performance
- Highest power density (power-to-displacement ratio)
- Total package weight of less than 1000 pounds
- Package is 10 to 12 inches shorter in length, making it easier to install in small compartments.
