Yamaha claims First 4 Stroke V8 Outboard and Highest Outboard Power Output as F350 Launched.Yamaha Motor Co has taken the wraps off their new Four Stroke model, the "F350” at the 2007 Miami Boat Show. The new four-stroke model “F350” is the first production outboard motor utilising a V8 engine and also delivers the world´s highest power output at 350 horsepower, rated at the prop.
The new Yamaha F350 is the first four stroke outboard motor to utilise a V8 powerhead. With a displacement of 5,330 cm3, this model delivers a maximum power output of 257.4 kW (350 hp) at the prop shaft, which is the highest horsepower rating for an outboard motor in the world today.
The massive power and torque of this model ensures a big boost in speed and acceleration performance, and it is also a model that provides outstanding durability and reliability along with an extremely comfortable operating performance. This new model also features a new streamlined external design with a completely new look from any of Yamaha"s previous four stroke outboards models.
And in the area of environmental stakes, the Yamaha F350 qualifies as a 3-star rating under the 2008 emissions standards of the California Air Resource Board (CARB), which are said to be the world’s most stringent.
The new model Yamaha F350 is expected to be available in the US markets during their coming summer season. The production schedule for Australian delivery is yet to be announced.
“This new model is a huge boost for the Australian market,” said Brett Hampson, National Sales and Marketing Manager for Marine Products at Yamaha Motor Australia.
“Now at last boat manufacturers and boaters alike have a realistic power alternative to the traditional inboard - outboard propulsion system. This is great news for boaters who demand both outboard power and a big offshore hull.”
Market Background and Product Summary
Traditionally, offshore boats of over nine meters have been powered primarily either by inboard or inboard-outboard motors. However, over recent years there has been a shift toward outboard motors as the power of choice for larger boats. This is due to the outboard configuration offering excellent speed, performance, fuel economy, ease of installation and maintenance plus the fact that they allow for more usable onboard space. As a result, there is a trend toward outboard motors with bigger horsepower and greater speed in the boating scene.
The new Yamaha F350 is a completely new product that has been built to meet these needs by breaking out of conventional categories in order to open up new market demand.
Key features of the Yamaha F350
Key Features of the Yamaha F350:
Massive power and torque from the world’s biggest horsepower outboard.
The first 60° V8 four stroke outboard engine ever, with a displacement of 5,330 cc and a DOHC, 32valve format.
In-Bank Dual Exhaust with Power Surge Chambers, a system that relieves pressure in the exhaust ports to increase power output.
Variable camshaft timing to greatly increase engine torque at low and mid-range rpm.
Up to 45 percent more thrust than conventional 250-hp class four-stroke outboards. (Yamaha comparison)
Specially designed Saltwater XL Series propellers with significantly larger diameter and blade area to bring out the full performance potential of the F350.
Outstanding Yamaha durability and reliability
Larger gear shaft adopted for greatly increased strength
Forged motor mounts and oversized mounting bracket for outstanding durability and excellent noise and vibration reduction.
Strategically placed sacrificial anodes and exclusive electrophoretic painting finish applied throughout the motor for outstanding corrosion protection.
Ionic Combustion Sensor adopted for the first time on an outboard to detect the production of ions and enable adjustments to maintain good combustion.
To accommodate the increased displacement, a larger thermostat, large-capacity water pump and dual-c
