Harken’s new B Slider Battcars offer a functional and cost effective way to raise, reef and drop mainsails on mid-sized to large keelboats up to 60 ft (18.3 m). System B Slider Battcars complement Harken’s popular System A Slider Battcars introduced a year ago for smaller keelboats. Unlike Harken’s ball bearing Battcars, these new slider systems feature low-friction plastic inserts on the track bearing surface. Like all Harken cars, they are CNC-sculpted one-piece solid 6061-T6 aluminum construction. Car bodies and bearing races are deep-saturation Hardkote-anodized for strength and durability, with a black additive for no-fade UV-stabilization, and corrosion protection. The car’s compact size translates into reduced weight and stack height when the mainsail is down. Battcar receptacles pivot in all orientations to handle complex batten loading. The headboard assembly uses two cars to handle the higher loads at the head of the sail, and is compatible with most mainsails. Use System B Slider Battcars on monohulls with mainsails less than 800 ft 2 (74 m 2) or multihulls with mainsails less than 650 ft 2 (60 m 2).
