This week we suspend our usual news show to bring you a World Exclusive as we talk to David Witt about the events in Leg 7 of the Volvo Ocean Race from Auckland, New Zealand to Itajai Brazil where in appalling sea conditions John Fish was lost overboard.
David goes over the situation and describes the efforts all the crew made in attempting to rescue John all to no avail, He also talks of what happened next and how a Delivery Crew took the yacht from Chile to the starting line for the next leg to Newport Rhode Island.
After that we talked generally about the race, the boats, how the crews cope, he names the new operator who will run the race after Volvo finishes with this race, what type of boats he thinks would be good for the next owner's edition and much more.
This is a riveting conversation rarely given by a leading yachtsman after such a terrible event.
Both the crew and those close to John wished the team to continue on in his memory.
